Celebrating Love

Valentine's Day

We celebrate love on Valentine’s Day.

Not a person — we celebrate the feeling.

We celebrate that feeling every year because it is such a wonderful emotion.

I hardly hear people say “I love you” these days.

Love has one of the greatest meanings in the world, I believe.

There is hardly any emotion greater than love.

We love our family — our kids, our parents — because we are related. Most of the time, this love feels unconditional. Blood is said to be thicker than other relationships.

But love is stronger.

You love another person the way you love yourself.

There are no conditions. No ifs and buts.

It’s pure.

I would say it feels like standing at the top of a tree — a little scary, a little magical, and completely alive.

When I first experienced love, it felt like finally stepping into something I had only admired from the other side of a screen.

It was everything I wanted — the happiness, the anxiety, the fear, the sadness — every emotion wrapped into one feeling called love.

My first boyfriend knew how much I loved roses. He used to bring me one every time we met — a different color each time.

In India, women place a rose by their hair. It makes you feel beautiful in a quiet, graceful way. He lived near my house and would notice the color dress I wore to college. By the end of the day, he would bring me a rose in the same color.

How thoughtful that was.

I have loved three men in my life.

The other two are worth writing a book about.

You can’t be someone’s Valentine for the rest of your life.

It’s impossible to stay the same for one person forever — either people change, or love changes its shape.

But what matters is this:

Love was real, even if only for a season.

To experience love — to think of another person selflessly — is a privilege.

Not everyone gets to feel that depth in their lifetime.

So today, we don’t just celebrate a person.

We celebrate love itself. ❤️
